Dental Implants

Dental Implants Can Make your Smile Attractive

Dental implants are a great option if you want to replace missing teeth in the most natural way that you possibly can. Unlike dentures, implants are an appealing and permanent solution. In addition, they are much better than bridges and other alternatives, because no adjacent teeth need to be altered for the implants to be placed.

The Process of Getting Implants

From start to finish, it takes many months for the entire dental implant process to be complete. During the initial phase of the process, the implant itself will be placed using a screw that is screwed into your jaw bone. A small incision in the gum will be made, so that the implant can be inserted. Single implants or multiple implants can be placed at the same time, depending on your dental needs. Once the implants are properly inserted, the gums will be sutured.

Healing and Beyond

After your implants have been inserted, it will take approximately 3 to 6 months to be completely healed from the procedure. While you are healing, the jaw bone will form around and will adhere to the implant in a process that is known as osseointegration. During this time your dentist may install temporary crowns, so that you can speak normally, eat without issues, and maintain a great smile.

Once the healing process is complete, an abutment will be placed on the implant. This will act as the base for your newly implanted tooth. An impression will then be taken of the abutment to create a permanent restoration. Many offices have labs onsite to create crowns, but in some cases outside labs may be used when necessary. After your restoration process is complete, you will then return for an office appointment to permanently attach the restoration. Your smile will be amazing, and in no time at all you won’t even notice the implant. It will feel just as natural as your other teeth do.
