Root Canal

Root Canals Keep Your Teeth Healthy

Dealing with the nerves of teeth is a very delicate type of dentistry called Endodontics. Root canals are associated with Endodontics and are known as one of the most notorious dental procedures in relation to it. If your tooth becomes infected it is normally related to the nerves located at the root of your tooth. Those infected nerves should be removed as soon as possible. If they are left untreated you could get a tooth infection that leads to an abscess. Abscess’ are much more serious and can include bone loss in your jaw. This is one of the main reasons why a toothache needs immediate care so the problem can be diagnosed.

What to Expect During a Root Canal

A root canal starts with a numbing of the area around your tooth using a local anesthetic. We will then drill down into a tooth, creating an opening in the canal. The infected tissue will be removed and the canal cleaned. Once the infection is removed then the space is filled with gutta percha, a sealant. When you have a root canal performed, it is a good idea to have it fitted with a crown. Not only will this improve the appearance of your tooth, it will also make the root canal more successful. Normally the term ‘root canal’ is synonymous with fear. However, we understand the process and perform gentle dental treatments that benefit your overall health. We make the procedure less scary. Of course there may be some soreness after the procedure, but this is normal. In the long-run you will be relieved of any pain caused by an infection that could only get potentially worse.
